With nearly 3,000 active participants, 67,000 vehicles, and 21 educational institutions in Skawina, the recently concluded “Bike May” campaign presented impressive numbers. Its goal was to promote sustainable mobility and a healthy lifestyle. Vesuvius Poland was one of the main sponsors of this initiative.

The rules of the campaign were simple: every preschooler, student, and teacher who actively commuted to school in May by bike, scooter, rollerblades, or skateboard received stickers for their biking journal and for a class poster. Prizes awaited the most active participants.

“We approach the issue of sustainable development comprehensively. By introducing innovative solutions in our highly specialized field, namely the refractories industry, we can help customers significantly reduce CO2 emissions. These are large-scale actions. However, we are aware that habits related to sustainable mobility should be introduced as early as possible, which is why we consider such campaigns important and support them locally,” says Piotr Sperka, the CEO of Vesuvius Poland.

Vesuvius Poland sponsored a prize of PLN 5,000 for the best primary school to purchase multimedia educational materials for science subjects and sports equipment. The winner in this category was Primary School No. 6 in Skawina, whose students and teachers achieved an attendance rate of almost 70% for commuting to school using bicycles. The overall average for the entire campaign was just under 50%, making their result impressive.

“Participating in Bike May is also an opportunity for us to promote Vesuvius among children and youth. Perhaps in the future, they will choose a technical career path, and Vesuvius will be their employer?” adds Piotr Sperka.

Thanks the initiators, the Municipality of Skawina, and Mayor Norbert Rzepisko for allowing us to participate in this project, which is particularly significant for us due to the fact that without refractory materials, there would be no bicycles. The technologies we provide are used, among others, in bicycle frame production 😉.
